Acai bowls are all the rage, but can also cost you an arm and a leg. Fortunately, Dzung Lewis of Honeysuckle has joined us again this month to show us how to master our own DIY version for a whole lot less. Enjoy!
I first heard about the acai bowl last Summer when I was visiting LA. I was intrigued by the idea of eating a smoothie in a bowl and wanted to learn more. I found out that this "dish" originated in Brazil where it's typically topped with pieces of banana and granola (check out my granola recipe here). Also, I heard Brazilian surfers love this stuff!
The trend hasn't hit my area yet but that doesn't stop me from making it at home. This thick smoothie in a bowl is not only refreshing but it's packed with chia, fruit, and lots of other healthy ingredients!
DIY Acai Berry Bowl

1 cup frozen fruit
1 banana
¼ - ½ cup coconut milk

Sliced strawberries
Sliced bananas
Instructions
- Add the acai, frozen fruit, banana, coconut milk, and chia seeds to a blender. Blend on medium speed for 1 minute until a smoothie-like consistency is achieved.
- Serve into two bowls and top with granola and sliced fruit. Enjoy with a spoon.
