Crockpot Cooking: Cranberry Sauce

Get your table ready...and crack that crockpot open! The barrage of holiday recipes is upon us, but we’re here to give you less to think about, not more. So, what about a slow-cooked spin on a seasonal side?

A traditional Thanksgiving meal wouldn’t be complete without delicious, nutritious cranberries packed with vitamins and antioxidants. Using the crockpot to cook your cranberries fills the kitchen with the smell of the holidays--yum! There’s also a space-saving bonus--tucked away in the corner of the kitchen, this method frees up stovetop space, which is at a premium when cooking a holiday meal.

Crockpot Cranberry Sauce

Ingredients:

(use organic when possible)

1 pound (1 bag) fresh (or frozen) cranberries

Juice of 1 lemon (can use orange instead)

1 large cinnamon stick

2-4 whole cloves (remove before eating

¼  cup sugar (or more to taste)

¼ cup water (or orange juice)

Directions:

  1. Place all ingredients in your crockpot and stir.
  2. Cover, turn settings to low, and cook for about 6-8 hours (until cranberries are very soft).
  3. When done cooking, mash with a wooden spoon.
  4. Serve warm or cool in the refrigerator.
  5. Enjoy!
